Application | 3-methoxyanisthioether is an organic intermediate, which can be obtained by alkylation of 3-(methylthio) phenol and methyl iodide or prepared by nucleophilic substitution of 3-chloroanisole with sodium methanolate. |
Preparation | In order to stir and dissolve 3-(methylthio) phenol (1g,7.13mmol) into acetonitrile (10mL), potassium carbonate (1.972g,14.27mmol) was added at 0°C. The reactants were stirred for 20 minutes, and then methyl iodide (0.9mL,14.27mmol) was added dropwise to the reaction mixture. The reaction mixture was heated to 45°C for 8 hours. After the reaction is completed, acetonitrile is evaporated. The crude reaction mixture was placed in ethyl acetate (50mL) and washed with a saline solution. The organic layer was separated and dried, filtered and concentrated with anhydrous sodium sulfate to obtain 3-methoxyanisethiole (0.935g, yield 85%). |
